Every time we think about them it gives us joy as we relive it once again!

As a kid, I had many childhood sweet memories, but this one is so fresh. Every time I talk or recall about it I’m thrilled and excited as if it just happened yesterday. It leaves me in goosebumps as I go back to my very first day at my primary school.

As the flashback goes……

It was in June 1989, I hardly knew about the date and time then. I was around 4 years old and I had no clue what school was like.

My mom woke me up early and dressed me in my new neatly pressed uniform. I did fall in love with my navy blue pleated skirt and the white shirt with white buttons. And the best part about the whole uniform was the colored tie, which when I wore set me in extreme happy mode. I was all smiles as I looked at myself in the mirror. Damn, there was no mobile phone those days to capture that little me in my first uniform.

I reached my new school with my parents, I recall the very first look at my first school building, it was humongous for a tiny toddler but the memory is so fresh even today. My eyes opened wide as I saw the tall green Ashoka trees aligning the school corridor in a linear fashion and the huge playground filled with red soil.

My parents and I were made to sit over the chairs neatly arranged over the playground with a canopy above it. There were many kids and their parents seated along with us. I was the one who was extremely thrilled and looking forward to what was next when my classmates all hung anxious and terrified faces.

There was an announcement made over the mic and within minutes a senior student approached me and took my hand and said “Come, dear, let’s go to your classroom” Not knowing what it was like, I just jumped up from my seat and followed her. My parents who were witnessing my every action were quietly surprised rather shocked as I never even attempted to take a look back at them. I just marched towards the school building. Even today my mom pinpoints this incident when I just left even without looking at them.

My eyes gleamed with joy as I walked past the playground, then there was a flight of steps which I was asked to climb to reach the first floor.

Oh, man! what a sight! as I reached the first floor and saw the entire view, it was mind-blowing. The sea breeze cooled my face as I walked past a lengthy corridor. My eyes scanned a huge auditorium with long benches and long desks. Maybe because I was a kid then, that those things appeared huge. I felt as though the very school building was designed for me, just to keep me excited all through my school years.

Finally, we arrived at a classroom and we kids were made to sit on a bench. I was holding my joyful tears and was awaiting what was next. There was a senior student who spoke to us, little did I understand what she was explaining. Then she showed us the blackboard and wrote something on it with white chalk. My eyes were glued to the huge blackboard. It was like a magical moment for me that we can write on a blackboard. I did fall in love with that blackboard. I had a secret wish within me on that day, that I want to write on the same blackboard soon!

I was the only one extremely excited and chilled out, unlike the other kids who were crying and holding their parent’s hands and never letting it go.

I was so determined to be at school every day without fail and I did achieve it all through my school years.

Yes! I was the most sincere student with 100% attendance just because I fell in love with my school at first sight!

I am sure everyone will have a similar childhood memory, feel free to share it in the comments section.
